There are many applications you can use to design a logo with and a few work well but the best software for this is by far Adobe Illustrator we use version CS4. There is a great feature in InDesign that we just love it's new from template and it will save you a lot of set up time. If you select option Tech 1 there is a default letterhead open it and it gives you a basic letterhead design. This will allow you to place your logo ideas in the letterhead and see just how it will look in a working document.

Now I'm not going to tell you how to design your logo but I will go through the process using my logo as a ginny pig. Take my company name Albany Graphics Design Studio it's long, and the idea is to create a symbol for your business. So I had to make it simple but identifiable to the specific market and subject. The word Albany is a Key Word because it sets the stage for the particular market and geographic's of the business. Since the company name is also the Domain Name I mad this word the most predominate.

The circle design was just that a design or symbol to help the viewer or user make a visual connection. The combination of shapes and text is always a good practice and will draw the attention. Letter style is best kept simple and not a lot of colors this will make the logo confusing and draw customers away from the product or service which is after all the most important thing.

What's the message your sending?

When you create a logo your sending a message and it should be more about what you do then who you are. More to the point it's not all about you it about what your customers need and want so keep to the subject. As an example of this consider a Insurance Company called Notworthy Inc. instead of Noteworthy Insurance Inc. If you want customers to know what your service is the best place to start is with your logo. On a brochure or Banner or company letterhead you need to get to the point.
